Inspired by the Parable of The King and the Handmaiden in Rumi’s Mesnevi, the story tells of Marife, who lived alone in a cottage for 40 years. While planning to marry Ilyas, Marife suddenly falls ill. This illness is actually a scheme by Yahya to reveal Ilyas' true nature. After her face is disfigured by the illness, Ilyas leaves her. Filled with anger, she goes into a life of seclusion. Years later, Ilyas’s son returns with his father’s body. His final wish is to be buried in Marife’s garden.
