Organized by Bosphorus Culture & Art Foundation with the contribution of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Cinema, and support of Global Communication Partner; Anadolu Agency, 8^th Bosphorus Film Festival - to run from 23-30 October this year - is on the boil for hosting the audiences in accordance with the precautions necessitated by General Instructions on the Controlled Normalization Process in Culture and Art Facilities.

Ticket Sales on Mobilet!

With physical screenings in Beyoglu and Kadıkoy movie theatres, 8^th Bosphorus Film Festival will showcase an enriched programme of 60 films from 30 countries.

Daytime screening (13.00 and 15.30) tickets are available for 10 TL, and evening screenings (18.00 and 21.00) are for 15 TL. And the competing short film screenings are 5 TL!

Festival will Open with “Sun Children”!

8^th Bosphorus Film Festival’s opening film will be Majid Majidi’s “Sun Children” that world- premiered at the Main Competition of 77^th Venice Film Festival with Marcello Mastroianni Best Young Actor Award granted to Rouhollah Zamani. Having won Best Editing and Best Actor awards with his film “Beyond the Clouds” at the 5^th Bosphorus Film Festival where it had its Turkey premiere, Majid Majidi’s latest film “Sun Children” is the story of Ali and his three friends who work hard to earn their living.

10 Films Vying for Golden Dolphin

Showcasing outstanding national productions of the year, National Feature Film Competition will grant one film with Golden Dolphin award worth 100,000 TL. Under the presidency of the writer, scriptwriter and producer Tarik Tufan, National Feature Film Competition jury members; director Ramin Matin, DOP Taner Tokgoz, actress Ipek Turktan Kaynak and actress Ecem Uzun will select the best national film of the year. 10 films to be judged by the National Feature Film Competition jury are Dervis Zaim’s “Flaşbellek / Flashdrive”, Orcun Benli’s “Gelincik / Weasel”, Erdem Tepegoz’s “Gölgeler İçinde / In the Shadows”, Ensar Altay's “Kodokushi”, Barış Gordag and Yasin Cetin’s “Koku / Fragrance”, Ferit Karol’s “Kumbara / Penny Bank”, Fatih Ozcan’s “Mavzer”, Ercan Kesal’s “Nasipse Adayız / You Know Him”, Reis Celik’s “Ölü Ekmeği / Food for Funeral”, and lastly Ahmet Sonmez’s “Sadece Farklı / Just Different”.

 “Kodokushi” and “Sadece Farkli / Just Different”, two national competition feature titles will have their world premieres and “Flaşbellek / Flashdrive”, “Gelincik / Weasel”, “Gölgeler İçinde / In the Shadows”, “Koku / Fragrance”, “Kumbara / Penny Bank”, “Mavzer” and “Ölü Ekmeği / Food for Funeral” will have their Istanbul premieres at the 8^th Bosphorus Film Festival.

10 Films from China to Italy Vying for the Gran Prix worth 50,000 TL

This year, International Feature Film Competition will showcase 10 films. Under the presidency of director, scriptwriter and producer Joanna Kos-Krauze, the jury members to judge the International Feature Competition films are director Ismet Sijarina; producer Anna Katchko, Chief Advisor of Kazakh Cinema Center; Nariman Aliev, winner of Best Director Award at 7^th Bosphorus Film Festival with “Homeward”, and Zlatko Vidackovic, FIPRESCI member and Artistic Director of Pula Film Festival. This year’s 10-titled International Feature Film Competition line-up includes Manijeh Hekmat’s “Bandar Band”, Pjer Zalica’s “Focus, Grandma”, Ensar Altay's “Kodokushi”, Chiara Bellosi’s “Ordinary Justice”, Ahmet Sonmez’s “Just Different”, Svetla Tsotsorkova’s “Sister”, Jing Wang’s “The Best is Yet to Come”, Ru Hasanov’s “The Island Within”, Jeanette Nordahl’s “Wildland”, and Antoneta Kastrati's “Zana”.

All the titles within the International Feature Film Competition will have their Turkey premieres at the 8^th Bosphorus Film Festival and “Kodokushi” and “Sadece Farklı / Just Different” will be showcased both within national and international competitions!

Short Fiction and Short Documentary Films Awaiting Their Audiences!

Festival Premieres Create Excitement!

Bosphorus Film Festival’s “Premieres” section hosting the Turkey premieres of the awaited films of the year will bring to the audiences Philippe Falardeau’s “My Salinger Year”; opening film of 70^th Berlin Film Festival that portrays an aspiring young woman working at the literary agency of J.D. Salinger, Majid Majidi's “Sun Children”, opening film of the festival, Dominic Cooke’s “The Courier” world-premiered at Sundance Film Festival, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Mohammad Rasoulof’s “There is No Evil”, winner of Golden Bear award at 70^th Berlin Film Festival.

Bosphorus Film Lab will be Organized Online!

To be organized as a part of 8^th Bosphorus Film Festival, Bosphorus Film Lab, this year, will be organized at the digital platform. Creating an active sharing environment by bringing together foreign guests with participants at digital platforms, Bosphorus Film Lab activities, training sessions for the finalists and the pitching sessions with the exclusive participation of the invited professionals will be organized online.

Important Information on the COVID-19 Precautions

To run from 23-30 October, 8^th Bosphorus Film Festival screenings will be made implementing the precautions specified by “General Instructions on the Controlled Normalization Process in Cultural and Artistic Facilities” dated as June 23, 2020 necessitated by Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Directorate General of Investments and Enterprises.

Bosphorus Film Festival will realize physical screenings in movie theatres this year as well with a programme re-determined according to COVID-19 precautions. In accordance with the precautions, movie theatres will be prepared a while before the screenings and guests will be accepted gradually in a way to prevent crowd-gathering. Warning signs will be placed on the floors indicating the physical distancing conditions of 1.5 meters. At the entrance, audiences will be subject to contactless temperature check and those who have higher temperature than 37.5 degrees will not be accepted to the theatre and will be sent to a health institution instead. In addition, hand sanitizers will be placed at the entrance and audiences/participants will be accepted to the theatres after disinfecting their hands. Necessitating the audiences to wear masks inside the theatres and halls, a seating arrangement will be made in accordance with the social distancing rules where the front and adjacent seats will be empty. And the ventilating systems of the halls will perform during the screenings with hundred percent fresh air. In case crowds gather at the lounge after the screenings, the attendants will direct the audiences to the exit in accordance with the social distancing code. And floor signs, lanes and barriers will be placed reminding the social distancing rules in order to prevent the crowd gathering at the information desk, buffet and restrooms.
