The competition excitement is around the corner for the 9th Bosphorus Film Festival taking place on 23-30 October. Films competing for the “Golden Dolphin” have been announced.
The films competing for the Best Film award in National Feature Competition have been announced at the 9th Bosphorus Film Festival, organized by the Bosphorus Culture and Arts Foundation and taking place on 23-30 October.
Ten Films Will Be Competing For The “Golden Dolphin” In The National Feature Competition
Films competing in National Feature Competition with jury president being director and screenwriter Reis Çelik are Emre Kayiş’s debut feature “Anatolian Leopard” world-premiered at the 46th Toronto Film Festival and won the FIPRESCI award, about the troubles a zoo keeper faces to prevent his institution from closing down, Semih Kaplanoğlu’s “Commitment Hasan” world-premiered at the Un Certain Regard selection of the 74th Cannes Film Festival, about a man who works at his father’s orchard trying to get rid of the electricity pole wanted to be constructed right in the middle of the field he works in, Sinan Sertel’s “The Hero In Me”, about a boy who goes on a journey to find his superpower and bring his deceased father back to life, Selman Nacar’s “Between Two Dawns”, world-premiered at the 69th San Sebastian International Film Festival New Directors section, about a moral decision a man has to make, Cemil Ağacıkoğlu’s “The Cage”, about a retired police officer, Hasan getting revenge from his colleague Yahya who he believes was the reason he got fired from his job, Erkan Tahhuşoğlu’s “Corridor”, about two sisters with opposing characters who have to live in the same house, Muhammet Çakıral’s “Dark Blue Night”, about the socio-economic traumas and despair of Semih, a licensed soccer player with low income, Ferit Karahan’s film “Brother’s Keeper” competed at the 71st Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama section and won the FIPRESCI award, about the efforts of Yusuf, who studies at boarding school and trying to take his friend Memo who mysteriously got sick and worsened to the hospital despite the rejections of the school and the heavy snow outside, Ahmet Toklu’s “The Hoop” world-premiered at the 51st Giffoni Film Festivali, about the story Ahmet who tries to find a way for a basketball court in his neighborhood that does not have one, Aydın Orak’s “Time of Impatience” that will have its world-premiere at the 37th Warsaw Film Festival’s Competiton 1-2 section, about two brothers living in the hot ghettos of Diyarbakır struggling to reach the swimming pool of the luxurious complex next door.
Two Turkish Premiers In The National Feature Competition
The Hoop and Time of Impatience will have their Turkish premiere at the 9th Bosphorus Film Festival National Competition, while Anatolian Leopard, Commitment Hasan, The Hero In Me, Between Two Dawns, The Cage, Corridor, Dark Blue Night and Brother’s Keeper will have their first screening in Istanbul.
For the first time this year, to support filmmakers in the beginning of their careers and their new films, Anatolian Leopard, Between Two Dawns, Time of Impatience and The Hoop will be competing for the Best Debut award with the contributions of Akli Film.
With the contribution of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism Cinema General Directorate, official partnership of TRT and support of Global Communications Partner Anadolu Agency, organized by the Bosphorus Culture and Arts Foundation and taking place on 23-30 October, one of the films in the National Feature Competition will be awarded 100.000 TL for the Best National Feature at the 9th Bosphorus Film Festival. 20.000 TL for the Best Director award, 15.000 TL for the Best Actress award, 15.000 TL for the Best Actor award, 10.000 TL for the Best Screenplay award, 10.000 TL for the Best Cinematography award and 10.000 TL for the Best Editing award will also be given. One film in the National Feature Competition will receive 10.000 TL for the Best Producer award from FIYAB.
