George Clooney Opens Bosphorus!

Celebrating its fifth year, Bosphorus International Film Festival’s opening film has been set. Written by Coen Brothers and directed by George Clooney, “Suburbicon” will make its Turkish premiere as the opening film of the festival. Starring Matt Damon and Julianne Moore, the film is a black comedy about a dark, yet fun suburb nightmare set in 1950’s.

Organized by International Bosphorus Cinema Association and Istanbul Media Academy with the support of Republic of Turkey General Directorate of Cinema, Bosphorus International Film Festival is celebrating its fifth edition now. The festival will bring the latest works from Turkey and the world cinema with Istanbulite cinephiles during 17-26 November.

And the opening film will be “Suburbicon”; one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. Having started his directing career with “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” (2002) and continued with acclaimed works such as “Good Night and Good Luck” (2005), “Leatherheads” (2008), “The Ideas of March” (2011) and “The Monuments Men” (2014), George Clooney’s sixth feature “Suburbicon” focuses on an unending suburb nightmare. Written by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, the film stars Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Josh Brolin.

Set in 1950’s, this neo-noir story is about Gardner Lodge, a resident of a calm, ordinary and peaceful suburb, who after a tragic incident explores violent, disloyal and mysterious areas of the neighborhood and delves into a nightmare. Having had its world premiere at Venice Film Festival, this entertaining black comedy with a heavy Coen Brothers style brought Fondazione Mimmo Rotella Award to George Clooney, and Franca Sozzani Award to Julianne Moore.
