Polish director Joanna Kos-Krauze will chair International Feature Film Competition Jury of Bosphorus Film Festival that will be meeting with cinephiles for the eighth time this year.

 

Organized by Bosphorus Culture & Art Foundation with the contribution of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Cinema, and support of Global Communication Partner; Anadolu Agency, the jury of International Feature Film Competition has been revealed of 8th Bosphorus Film Festival to run this year from 23-30 October. This year, the jury will be chaired by Joanna Kos-Krauze; the Polish director of the films My Nikifor, Plac Zbawiciela Papusza, and Birds Are Singing in Kigali.

 

Director, screenwriter, and producer, and ex-president of the Directors’ Guild of Poland, Joanna Kos-Krauze won many awards with the films she co-wrote and co-directed together with her husband Krzysztof Krauze. Employing a humanist approach in her films, she won a total of four awards with My Nikifor in Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2005 including Best Director, and in 2006, with her sophomore feature Plac Zbawiciela, Gran Prix at Trieste Film Festival. In 2012, her film Papusza won 25 awards in total including Jury Special Award in Karlovy Vary, and Best Director Award in Valladolid Film Festival. Her fourth feature Birds Are Singing in Kigali won Best Work in Progress Award in 2016 at Locarno International Film Festival and was screened over 200 times around the world. Winner of many international awards, Krauze is a well-known figure in Polish cinema.  

 

International Feature Film Competition Jury Members

 

Under the presidency of Joanna Kos-Krauze, among the jury members to judge the International Feature Competition Films are Ismet Sijarina, director of “Cold November”, a film about Kosovo during the breakdown of Yugoslavia Federation in the early 90’s, that had world-premiered at San Sebastián Film Festival, and the winner of Best Actor Award at 6th Bosphorus Film Festival; Nariman Aliev, Ukrainian director of “Homeward”, that world- premiered at Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Film Festival and the winner of Best Director and Best Actor awards at 7th Bosphorus Film Festival; Anna Katchko, producer of the film “Mariam” that was screened in prestigious international film festivals including Locarno, Toronto and Busan; and who also is the International Relations Chief Advisor of Kazakh Cinema Center and Zlatko Vidackovic, president of the Croatian Society of Film Critics, FIPRESCI member, and Artistic Director of Pula Film Festival.

 

5 Awards will be Granted at International Feature Film Competition

 

To be presided by Joanna Kos-Krauze, this year’s International Feature Film Competition Jury will grant awards worth 95,000 TL in total in 5 categories of “Best Director”, “Best Actress, “Best Actor”, and “Jury Special Award” alongside with “Best International Feature Film Award” worth 50,000 TL. 

 

8th Bosphorus Film Festival will be organized by Bosphorus Culture & Art Association during 23-30 October in Istanbul.
