The national competition programme of Bosphorus International Film Festival, that will kickstart on October 26, has been revealed. One film selected by the National Feature Competition Jury, to be presided by the master director Serdar Akar, and with the members; actress Begüm Birgören, director Andaç Haznedaroğlu, screenwriter Ercan Mehmet Erdem and the director of photography Mehmet Aksın will have a 100,000 TL worth Grand Prix and also a 10,000 TL worth FIYAB Production Award will go to a first or second-time feature film producer. And at the short fiction and documentary sections, 18 films will be competing for the awards 50,000 TL worth in total.
Organized with the support of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Cinema, Institutional Partnership of TRT, Global Communication Partnership of Anadolu Agency, Main Communication Partnership of TV+ and the Institutional Communication Partnership of Türkmedya, 6th Bosphorus Film Festival kicks off on October 26. The festival, to run until November 3, will bring the latest works from Turkey and the world cinema to the Istanbulite cinephiles this year as well.
The highly anticipated national competition films and juries of the 6th Bosphorus Film Festival are announced today (October 8). Hosting a special selection of the best films of the year, The National Feature Film Competition will provide one film with a 100,000 TL worth Grand Prix. And 18 films will be competing for the awards 50,000 TL worth in total at the Short Fiction and Documentary Film Competition.
Serdar Akar is the jury president
Under the presidency of Serdar Akar; the director of “Gemide” and the scriptwriter of “Laleli’de Bir Azize”, two cult films of 90’s, who also won many rewards with his forthcoming films such as “Dar Alanda Kısa Paslaşmalar”, “Maruf” and “Barda”; the National Feature Film Competition jury members; the actress Begüm Birgören, who has starred in TV series such as “Kırık Kanatlar”, “Ömre Bedel”, “Kaçak”, “Umuda Kelepçe Vurulmaz” and in movies such as “Sen Ne Dilersen”, “Türkan”, “Nokta”, “Kendime İyi Bak”; Andaç Haznedaroğlu, the last year’s winner of The Best Film Award at Bosphorus Film Festival and the director of films “Her Şey Aşktan” and “Acı Tatlı Ekşi”; Ercan Mehmet Erdem, the scriptwriter of the TV series “Behzat Ç. Bir Ankara Polisiyesi” and the feature film “Behzat Ç. Ankara Yanıyor” and Mehmet Aksın, the director of photography who shot films such as “Gemide”, “Gönderilmemiş Mektuplar” and “Anlat İstanbul” will select the best film of the year.
The Best Film of the National Feature Film Competition will receive the Grand Prix worth 100,000 TL, and monetary awards will also be provided to winners of “”Best Director”, “Best Actor”, “Best Actress”, “Best Screenwriting”, “Best Cinematography” and “Best Editing” sections.
Premieres at Bosphorus!
This year, 10 films will be judged by the jury: “Güvercin” by Banu Sıvacı, “Tuzdan Kaide” by Burak Çevik, “Sükut Evi” by Cafer Özgül, “Anons” by Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun, “Halef” by Murat Düzgünoğlu, “Babamın Kemikleri” by Özkan Çelik, “Son Çıkış” by Ramin Matin, “Güven” by Sefa Öztürk Çolak, “Kaos” by Semir Aslanyürek and “Borç” by Vuslat Saraçoğlu.
“Sükut Evi” by Cafer Özgül will have its world premiere at our festival and “Son Çıkış” by Ramin Matin, that had its world premiere at Tokyo Film Festival will be screened for the first time in Turkey at Bosphorus Film Festival. And the films “Anons”, “Babamın Kemikleri”, “Güven” and “Kaos” will have their Istanbul premieres at Bosphorus Film Festival.
Support to the Independent Filmmaking
One of the introductions of this year’s festival is FIYAB Production Award that will be provided by Film Producers’ Professional Association (FIYAB). The jury members Metin Tunçtürk, Nazif Tunç and Sinan Sertel will judge the first or second-time feature film producers competing at the National Feature Film Competition and will give a FIYAB Production Award worth 10,000 TL. With the aim to support the independent filmmaking, the award will be provided to a producer who realized the production despite the difficult conditions and also who successfully could execute all the processes from budget to shooting.
The Jury of the Short Competition
The films of the National Short Fiction Competition will be selected by the Brazilian independent director Davi Pretto, who had the world premiere of his debut feature at the Forum section of Berlinale and received the best cinematography award from our festival last year; Enes Erbay, the director of awarded films such as “Çırak”, “In The Same Garden”, “Emekli” and Murat Tırpan; the head of Film & TV department at Okan University and a member of SIYAD. And the jury members of the National Short Documentary Film Competition will be Rati Oneli; the Georgian director of the shorts such as “I Theo”, “Leitmotif” and the documentary “City of the Sun”, selected as the best documentary film at San Francisco and Sarajevo film festivals; Kıvılcım Akay, the director of “Modanın 100 Yılı”, the first Turkish documentary on the subject of fashion and “Dileğim Barış Olsun”, a documentary on the war victim children’s desire for peace and Didem Şahin, a director that we know for her works such as “No Sochi!”, “Beyrut'a Gittiğimi Anneme Söylemeyin”, “Benim Ali Sami Yen’im", and “Lady Muhtar”.
Award for short filmmakers in memoriam of Ahmet Uluçay!
The short film competition of Bosphorus International Film Festival will be hosting 10 fiction and 8 documentary shorts. The fiction short film winner will be presented with a 10,000 TL worth Best National Short Fiction Film Award, and the short documentary winner will be presented with a 10,000 TL worth Best National Short Documentary Award. In addition, one film selected from any of the categories will be the winner of a 25,000 TL worth Ahmet Uluçay Grand Prix and one film will be presented with a 5000 TL worth Istanbul Media Academy Emerging Talent Award.
For the National Short Fiction Film Competition, the films “Fabrika” by Batuhan Köksal, “Gümüş” by Deniz Telek, “Titanyum” by Gökçe Erdem, “Her Şey Yolunda” by Metehan Şereflioğlu, “Sonsuz” by Murat Çetinkaya, “Bitmiş Aşklar Müzesi” by Murathan Özbek, “Mavi Yarın” by Numan Ayaz’, “Kaset” by Serkan Fakılı, “İmparatorlukta Zor Bir Gün” by Sezen Kayhan and “Balık Kraker” by Yiğit Evgar will be competing. And for the National Short Documentary Competition, “Kurbağa Avcıları” by Batuhan Kurt, “Denizden Gelen” by Ceyhun Yılmaz Ket, “Sarıcakız” by Ege Şirin, “Çalıkuşu” by Esra Yıldırım, “Salı” by Hüseyin Baki Karataş, “Dönüş” by Nesli Özalp, “Ömürlük Göç” by Şenol Çöm and “Peki Şimdi Nereye” by Zeynep Südinç will be judged by the festival jury.
