Celebrating its sixth edition, the winners of Bosphorus Film Festival have been announced! At the Closing-Award Ceremony held in Cemal Reşit Rey, “Halef” by Murat Düzgünoğlu has been selected as the Best Film at the National Feature Competition, winning the Golden Dolphin Award worth 100,000 TL. And at the international competition, Palestinian director Bassam Jarbawi’s “Screwdriver” has been selected as the Best Film and also the projects to be supported by Bosphorus Film Lab have been announced. Norwegian director Bent Hamer, has been presented with Honorary Award at the ceremony that hosted numerous guests.

 

Organized by International Bosphorus Cinema Association and Istanbul Media Academy with the contributions of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 6th International Bosphorus Film Festival was concluded with the award ceremony held on the night of November 3. Bringing to the Istanbulite cinephiles the latest productions not only from Turkey, but from throughout the world, this year a total of 88 films made by 90 directors from 41 countries have been showcased and numerous master filmmakers met in Istanbul as festival guests including Sergei Loznitsa, Paulo Branco, Parviz Shahbazi, and Marc Baschet.

 

Bent Hamer: I haven’t realized my best films yet

The first award of the ceremony has been the Honorary Award presented to Norwegian director Bent Hamer. Having received his award from Ömer Arısoy; the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, the master director declared his appreciations for the award and said, “I am honored, flattered and moved. I would like to think I haven’t realized my best films yet, thank you so much.”

 

Best national film of the year “Halef”

At the closing ceremony of Bosphorus Film Festival, besides the winners of national and international competitions, the winners of Bosphorus Film Lab, the platform providing substantial support to the new projects, have also been announced.

 

Chaired by the director Serdar Akar, and composed of members; actress Begüm Birgören, director Andaç Haznedaroğlu, screenwriter Ercan Mehmet Erdem and cinematographer Mehmet Aksın, National Feature Film Competition Jury has selected Halef directed by Murat Düzgünoğlu as the best national film of the year.  Winning the Golden Dolphin Award worth 100,000 TL, Halef also won Best Screenplay (Murat Düzgünoğlu, Melik Saraçoğlu) and Best Actor (Muhammet Uzuner) awards. Best Director Award has been presented to Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun for his film “The Announcement”, with which Krum Rodriguez also won Best Cinematography Award. Another winner of the ceremony has been “Debt”. İpek Türktan Kaynak won Best Actress and Naim Kanat won Best Editing awards.

 

For FIYAB Production Award worth 10,000 TL that has been provided by the festival for the first time this year, debut and sophomore film producers were judged and the jury members Metin Tunçtürk, Nazif Tunç and Sinan Sertel selected Mesut Ulutaş, the producer of “The Pigeon”, as the producer of the year.

 

Golden Dolphin Goes to the Palestinian director

At the International Feature Film Competition, Golden Dolphin Award worth 50,000 TL has gone to the Palestinian director Bassam Jarbawi’s “Screwdriver”.

Chaired by the Iranian director Parviz Shahbazi, and composed of members; actress Belçim Bilgin, producer Marc Baschet and cinematographer Iris Ng, International Feature Film Jury opted for Payman Maadi, the director and actor of the Iranian film “Bomb: A Love Story” as the Best Director.

In addition, Valeria Bertuccelli has been selected as Best Actress for her performance in “The Queen Of Fear”, and Kushtrim Hoxha has been selected as the Best Actor for his performance in “Cold November”. Also, Jury Special Award has gone to Babak Jalali for his film “Land”.

 

Awards worth 70,000 TL to short films!

Awards worth a total of 70,000 TL have been provided to the national and international short film competition of 6th Bosphorus Film Festival. Short Fiction Film Competition Jury, composed of filmmakers Davi Pretto, Enes Erbay and Murat Tırpan, selected “Titanium” by Gökçe Erdem for the national, and “Patision Avenue” by Thanasis Neofotistos for the international competition as the Best Short Fiction Film. And Short Documentary Film Jury, composed of filmmakers Rati Oneli, Kıvılcım Akay and Didem Şahin, selected “The Return” by Nesli Özalp at the national, and “Volte” co-directed by Monika Kotecka and Karolina Poryzala at the international competition as the Best Short Documentary. Additionally, “Volte” won Ahmet Uluçay Grand Prize worth 25,000 TL. And the winner of Istanbul Media Academy Young Talent Award worth 5000 TL has been the short film “The Tape” directed by Serkan Fakılı.

 

Support for the national film industry!

The winners of Bosphorus Film Lab, organized with the institutional partnership of TRT and with the aim of contributing to the development of national films, establishing financial and moral support for the emerging producers and directors in their endeavor to produce new films, have also been announced.

 

As announced by Tuncay Yürekli, Vice President of TRT, TRT Co-production Award given at the Pitching category has gone to Ümit Köreken’s “A Hope”. And Dilek Taşdemir, General Coordinator of Digiflame announced that they will support the project “Stick Horse” by Korhan Günay and Canan Çelik with Digiflame VFX Post-Production Support Award worth 50,000 TL.

 

At the category of Work in Progress, Erkin Yılmaz, Director of Cinema presented Ministry of Culture and Tourism Special Award worth 25,000 TL to the project “The Trap” by Seyid Çolak, and CGV Mars Film Distribution Award was presented to Mehmet Bahadır Er and Maryna Er Gorbach’s “Omar and Us” by Ceyda Gökyıldırım, Marketing – Business Development and CRM Director of CGV.
